The event took place at the European Commission representation office in Riga, Latvia, on November 29, 2017. The event gathered more than 20 representatives of local companies and the industry. The topic of the discussion was: Riga – Economic opportunities brought by Rail Baltica. The main speakers were:

 

  • Guntars RuskulsHead of the Strategic Planning Unit and Deputy Head Strategic Management Department, Riga City Council;
  • Aigars KušķisTerritorial planner, deputy Head of Historic Centre Planning Unit, City Development Department, Riga City Council;
  • Viesturs CelmiņšProfessor, Anthropologist working with Urban planning and Strategic Design;
  • Neils BalgalisUrban planner, Moderator and Head of Urban planning company “Grupa 93”.

 

Each of the speakers delivered their vision regarding, how Rail Baltica project could improve the infrastructure of Riga and what are the possible development possibilities, as well as new challenges for urban planners. The presentations of the speakers raised further open discussion, which involved the attendees, among whom were not only representatives of companies such as FIMA, AECOM, but also representatives of RB Rail and Eiropas Dzelzceļa līnijas, FICIL building a constructive debate, regarding the development of the city’s infrastructure and the way how the companies could take part in this process.
