At the beginning of January, members of the Rail Baltica Estonia Business Network (RBBN) had the opportunity to meet with Prime Minister Kristen Michal at Stenbock House. During the meeting held in the Government Office’s cabinet room, the Prime Minister provided an overview of Estonia’s economic outlook and the overall security situation.
While discussions on security issues included rather concerned assessments, the Prime Minister described the economic outlook as moderately positive. He emphasized the importance of the Rail Baltica project for Estonia’s long-term economic growth and expressed hope that political support for completing the project by 2030 will continue.
In the informal exchange of views with RBBN members, it was noted that in order to achieve an immediate increase in freight volumes once Rail Baltica becomes operational, north–south freight traffic should be stimulated already today, including through the use of the existing rail corridor.
During the meeting, RBBN Management Board member Tõnis Tamme also highlighted the recent milestone of the Rail Baltica Estonia Business Network’s 10th year of activity. He added that the association of entrepreneurs supporting the construction of the Rail Baltica railway aims to continue serving as a unifying bridge between the public and private sectors in this major project of the century.
